The Benefits of Wisetek’s Remote IT Service
The effects of COVID-19 on workplaces will last well into the future, which stresses the need for a structured Remote IT Service.
In the early months of 2020, working from home went from being a relative novelty to the ‘new normal’ of office work. IT, HR, and other departments have had to rearrange the way things have traditionally been done to adjust to the reality of remote workforces.
Many of the remote work positions were set up quickly in response to lockdowns worldwide, but now the challenges surrounding remote work are becoming apparent.
The onboarding of new employees and the support of personnel working from home varies amongst companies, but generally organizations must consider: hardware, such as phones, laptops, etc., and; the work culture, which can include assistance for mental wellbeing and teambuilding.
The manner in which companies treat their employees and address these considerations will remain important in the coming years.
IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and Company Hardware
In terms of hardware, IT assets such as laptops, monitors, desktop computers and mobile phones are all essential for a remote workforce. These were amongst the first devices to be shipped (or taken by employees themselves) to their new home offices at the onset of the pandemic.
Many organizations struggled to keep their businesses operating at peak productivity levels when the first lockdowns arrived. In response, IT assets were hurriedly dispatched to employees’ homes, but few considered the consequences of having so much corporate-owned property within private residences and the need for an effective IT strategy.
One year later, many of these organizations have experienced massive shifts in the way in which their HR and IT departments assist the remote workforce.
New Staff, New Costs
Traditionally, the local IT guy would be able to handle the issuance and inventories of corporate-owned IT assets from the office. Having everything under one roof just made sense, but now that everyone is working from home, the logistics and servicing of IT assets has been completely disaggregated. This has come with high costs.
These costs have grown to exorbitant levels in organizations that lack a robust system of logistics and IT asset disposition (ITAD). Although businesses can begin assembling task forces and specialized departments to look after the issuance, servicing and collection of IT assets located outside of the office, the cost simply isn’t justified.
Wisetek’s Remote IT Service
In order to address this growing need for an organized, safe, and cost-effective IT asset disposition strategy, it’s important to take action sooner rather than later. ITAD strategies must consider the safety and security of data on corporate devices in order to mitigate costly data leaks or breaches. They must also include plans for the safe and effective returns of redundant IT assets, as well as how they’re stored and whether or not they must be safely destroyed, refurbished, or recycled.
The employee’s home should, for the purpose of an effective ITAD strategy, be considered an extension of the office space. This means that you must have a plan in place for the safe and secure shipping of devices to and from the employee’s home.
Wisetek offers a comprehensive Remote IT Service that precisely addresses these issues and much more. Our expertise in safe and secure logistics, data destruction, decommissioning and a strong commitment to data safety and security mean that your organization will benefit from our expertise while also keeping costs competitively low.
Our Remote IT Service process is as such:
You receive access to our Returntek.com portal, which allows clients to quickly request a box for the IT asset;
Wisetek then confirms and arranges a suitable time with the client;
We then drop the box off and collect the asset, which is visible via the Returntek.com tracking feature;
We transport the IT asset and process it internally at Wisetek. This completes the chain of custody;
We perform a secure wipe of all data held on the asset.
Once all data has been securely wiped from the asset, the client can choose what to do with it. Depending on its condition and value, you can choose to either redeploy the asset, have it remarketed, re-used, recycled, or destroyed.
After processing the asset, customers can view all relevant reports and certificates (e.g. certificates of destruction) through our online portal.
